Richmond Cottages

Luxury Cottages in the jewel of North Yorkshire

Richmond provides visitors with plenty of opportunities for shopping, dining, and exercise, making it one of the top destinations in all of Yorkshire.

Richmond is a market town and civil parish in North Yorkshire. Historically in the North Riding of Yorkshire, it is situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Richmond has changed little since its founding more than a thousand years ago. The town used to have strategic importance, helping to keep the Celts and the Picts at bay during the early medieval period. But today it attracts visitors from far and wide, thanks to its impressive Georgian architecture and open-air market stalls.

What to do in Richmond?

The town gets its name from the Norman castle built in 1071. The Norman called the keep "riche-monte" meaning "strong hill." Visitors can visit the castle at Richmond and inspect the ruins. You can also go to the Church of the Holy Trinity and partake in the local market.

Richmond became a bustling market town in the medieval period after royal charters gave people the right to hold markets and fairs, and its legacy is still going strong to this day. The sizeable cobbled marketplace at the centre of town provides one of the biggest open trade areas in any British settlement, proving just how vital commerce was to Richmond's success.

“Possibly the most perfect location in the Dales - absolutely idyllic. Beautiful house too. You will not be disappointed!”

Kevin, April 2019

“Boutique 39 is in an excellent location to visit the Yorkshire Dales and East Witton is a very pretty peaceful village. The cottage is so luxuriously furnished and so well equipped it was an absolute joy to spend time in the cottage. The owners have certainly created a wonderful holiday home and although it was great to visit different places in the Dales it was a real pleasure to return to relax and enjoy this gem of a cottage at the end of the day.”

“The owner Corey was very welcoming and helpful. The cottage is very comfortable, well equipped, cosy and very clean. Highly recommended! We found the pretty village of East Witton an ideal base for exploring the Dales, but unfortunately no amenities other than the Blue Lion Inn. Have already re-booked for next year...”
