Finghall Cottages

Luxury Cottages for a great cottage getaway

The Wensleydale Railway is a heritage railway in Wensleydale and Lower Swaledale in North Yorkshire, England. The line runs 22 miles between Northallerton.

Wensleydale is the dale or upper valley of the River Ure on the east side of the Pennines, one of the Yorkshire Dales in North Yorkshire, England.

Finghall is a small village outside of the popular North Yorkshire market town of Leyburn. The first recorded mention of the settlement of Finghall is found in the Domesday book, dating from 1086. Finghall is a small village of fewer than 200 people, but thanks to its beautiful surroundings, attracts people from all over the country. It’s a great place for a cottage getaway.

What to do in Finghall?

Finghall is close to the market town of Leyburn where you can find a selection of independent shops, places to eat and the Leyburn Arts Centre where a former school puts on an art show every Friday.

Leyburn is also on the historic Wensleydale Railway line which runs from Northallerton to Redmire. Many people visiting Finghall and Leyburn take a ride on the railway to get a sense of what it must have been like living and working in the area more than a century ago.

No stay in Leyburn would be complete without taking a walk along the Leyburn Shawl escarpment. The elevated section of land provides exceptional views of the Yorkshire Dales to the west.

“Boutique 39 is in an excellent location to visit the Yorkshire Dales and East Witton is a very pretty peaceful village. The cottage is so luxuriously furnished and so well equipped it was an absolute joy to spend time in the cottage. The owners have certainly created a wonderful holiday home and although it was great to visit different places in the Dales it was a real pleasure to return to relax and enjoy this gem of a cottage at the end of the day.”

“The owner Corey was very welcoming and helpful. The cottage is very comfortable, well equipped, cosy and very clean. Highly recommended! We found the pretty village of East Witton an ideal base for exploring the Dales, but unfortunately no amenities other than the Blue Lion Inn. Have already re-booked for next year...”
